The Merida project’s primary goal was to develop a self- sufficient garden that will help provide basic produce needs to an impoverished community in the area. The Community is made up of around 40 families (~60 children) that have immigrated from various parts of Mexico. The homeless families came to this community seeking shelter and the opportunity for better quality of life.
The project was a collaboration with 2 other Rotary Clubs in Merida. The entire Community was also involved in developing and learning how to care for the Garden. Also, the Project was supported by a Rotary District 5130 Grant. The Healdsburg Rotary Club likes to participate in person as much as they can on international projects. In January, some members of the Healdsburg Rotary Club made a trip to Merida to meet the Community, Rotary partners, and help prepare the Garden site.
