Dateline Healdsburg, California

The women and men of the Healdsburg, California Rotary Club are continuing their effort, in concert with Rotary International, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the World Health Organization, and others, in the battle to eradicate polio from the face of the earth.

Since Rotary began its Polio Plus campaign it has partnered with multiple health organizations throughout the world to help in the fight against this dreaded disease. Prominent among the partners that Rotary International has partnered with is the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This foundation has pledged to match the funds that Rotary raises in this battle with a 2:1 match. In other words, for every dollar raised by Rotary, the Gates Foundation will contribute two dollars.

As part of our club's strategy to raise money to fight polio, we have created Green Hair Day. In conjunction with the Saint Patrick's Day celebration in Healdsburg, our club members paint their hair green and then march in the parade. We use the green hair painting as a reason to request that our family, friends, and business associates donate money to support our fundraising efforts.

The infrastructure that Rotary and its partners have created worldwide to fight polio is also being used to address other health issues, including Covid-19.
